Terms of Service

Last updated: September 16, 2026 · Version 1.5 — §3 now covers the Pro subscription (monthly renewal, cancellation from the customer portal or by e-mail before the renewal date, key valid until the end of the paid month) and the prices in force (the entry pack and the file audit are stated in US dollars like everything else). Version 1.4 (September 15, 2026): §2 and §6(e) now cover the anonymous free key, which has no e-mail address attached at all: the free tier is attached to the person using it, and a key obtained without an address is revocable where free volume is multiplied. §3 states that an allowance granted against a payment is counted once rather than refilled monthly. Version 1.3 (September 4, 2026): §2 states the attribution owed on the free tier when results are shown to people (the response carries the credit). Version 1.2 (September 1, 2026): §3 states how a purchase is invoiced (the Stripe receipt, and the named invoice available on request). Version 1.1 (August 18, 2026) stated explicitly in §6 that the free tier is attached to the person, not the e-mail address (fair-use / multi-account clause).

These Terms govern your use of the IBANforge API (api.ibanforge.com) and website (ibanforge.com), operated by IBANforge, a sole proprietorship established in Switzerland (see Legal Notice). By requesting an API key, purchasing credits, paying per call, or otherwise using the Service, you accept these Terms.

1. The Service

IBANforge provides programmatic validation and enrichment of bank identifiers: IBAN validation, BIC/SWIFT lookup, Swiss clearing (BC-Nummer) data, issuer classification, and bank-level compliance signals. The Service is provided on a self-service basis via REST API, MCP server, and the website playground.

2. Accounts and API keys

A free API key is issued on request and requires no e-mail address: an anonymous key carries a smaller monthly allowance and no personal data at all. Supplying an address and verifying it, or paying, raises that same key to the full free allowance; the address is then attached to it. You are responsible for keeping your key confidential; calls made with your key count against your quota. We may revoke keys used for abuse (see §6). You may request deletion of your key, and of any address attached to it, at any time (see Privacy Policy).

3. Plans and payment

  • Free tier — two steps, both free: an anonymous key issued without any address, and the same key raised to the full free allowance once it is claimed. The allowances in force are published on the API keys page. Quotas reset on the 1st of each month, except where the allowance was granted against a payment, in which case it is counted once rather than refilled. Attribution: when results obtained on either free step are shown to people (a page, a screen, a document), you display the credit the response carries ("Powered by IBANforge", linked). Results that stay inside your own systems owe nothing. Paid plans carry no attribution.
  • Prepaid credit packs — purchased by card (via Stripe) or in USDC; credits do not expire. Prices are displayed on the pricing page at the time of purchase.
  • x402 pay-per-call — per-request payment in USDC on Base, settled through the x402 protocol.
  • Pro subscription — a monthly plan billed by card through Stripe at the price displayed on the pricing page, giving one key a monthly allowance that resets on the 1st. The subscription renews automatically each month until cancelled. You can cancel at any time in the customer portal (sign in with the e-mail address used at checkout) or by writing to support@ibanforge.com before the renewal date; cancelling stops the next renewal and the key keeps working until the end of the month already paid. A month started is not refunded, except where the law requires it. If a renewal payment fails, the key falls back to the free allowance until the payment goes through.

Prices may change with 30 days' notice on the pricing page; already-purchased credits keep their validity. Card payments are processed by Stripe — we never see or store card numbers. Stripe sends a receipt by e-mail for every card purchase, at the address given at checkout, and that receipt is your proof of payment. A named invoice, carrying your company details and the tax identifiers applicable to the sale, is issued on request to support@ibanforge.com. Except where required by law, payments for consumed API calls are non-refundable; unused credit packs purchased by card are refundable within 14 days of purchase on request to support@ibanforge.com.

4. Service levels

The free tier and self-service plans are provided without a contractual SLA. We operate the Service with production-grade care (status and error rates are published on the status page), but availability is not guaranteed. Written SLAs with support commitments are available as part of Editor/OEM agreements — see the Service Level Agreement and contact support@ibanforge.com.

5. Data and compliance signals — important limits

The Service returns informational signals, not regulated advice:

  • Sanctions screening is performed at the bank level (BIC8). It does not screen beneficiary or account-holder names. It is not a regulated AML/CFT product and does not fulfil name-screening obligations under AML law. Use a regulated provider for name-level KYC/AML.
  • Reference data (BIC directories, SEPA registers, Swiss BankMaster, sanctions lists) is compiled from third-party sources and refreshed on the schedule shown in the documentation. Data may contain errors or lag behind reality.
  • Validation results confirm structure and registry data; they do not confirm that an account exists, is open, or belongs to a specific person.

You remain solely responsible for your own regulatory obligations and payment decisions.

6. Acceptable use

You must not: (a) resell raw bulk extracts of the underlying databases as a standalone dataset; (b) use the Service to violate sanctions, AML or data-protection law; (c) attempt to disrupt the Service, circumvent quotas or metering, or probe for vulnerabilities outside a responsible-disclosure context; (d) misrepresent IBANforge results as a regulated compliance opinion; (e) create or use multiple keys, accounts or e-mail addresses in order to multiply free volume — the free tier is attached to the person (natural or legal) using it, not to the e-mail address, and not to the network, browser or client the keys were requested from. This applies in full to keys obtained without any e-mail address: a set of anonymous keys requested in bulk from one network, one client or one automated agent is one person multiplying free volume, whatever the absence of an address suggests. Where free volume is multiplied this way, IBANforge may without notice restrict, regroup or revoke the keys involved and refuse service. Revocation is limited to keys that were obtained in the burst concerned and that have neither been claimed nor carry purchased credits; processing already performed, purchased credits and claimed keys are not called into question. Embedding the API inside your own product for your end customers is permitted with a commercial plan (Editor/OEM) or within your plan's quota.

7. Intellectual property

The IBANforge core validation library is open source under the MIT license (see GitHub). The hosted Service, its compiled datasets and its brand remain the property of the operator. API responses may be used freely within your products; the underlying compiled databases may not be extracted wholesale.

8. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Swiss law, the Service is provided "as is". Our aggregate liability for any claims arising out of the Service is limited to the amounts you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, including losses caused by payment decisions taken on the basis of Service responses. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

9. Changes and termination

We may update these Terms with 30 days' notice published on this page (material changes are also announced in the changelog). You may stop using the Service at any time. We may terminate keys engaged in abuse with immediate effect, and otherwise with 30 days' notice.

10. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by Swiss law, excluding conflict-of-law rules. Exclusive place of jurisdiction is the registered seat of the operator in Switzerland, subject to mandatory consumer venues.
