IBANforge
Google Sheets add-on

Check a column of IBANs from a formula

=IBAN_CHECK(A2:A200) fills five columns next to your IBANs: valid, the bank the register names, the BIC, the bank-code verdict and SEPA reach. Batches of 100, cached six hours, on your own IBANforge key.

Try two test IBANs

Import the documentation example and its invalid variant, then inspect the five result columns.

The four functions

=IBAN_VALID(A2:A200)TRUE or FALSE, one row per cell
=IBAN_BANK(A2:A200)the institution the national register names for the bank code
=IBAN_BIC(A2:A200)the BIC the register pairs with the bank code, empty when none
=IBAN_CHECK(A2:A200)five columns: valid, bank, BIC, bank-code verdict, SEPA

French aliases IBAN_VALIDE, IBAN_BANQUE, IBAN_CONTROLE and German aliases IBAN_GUELTIG, IBAN_BANKNAME, IBAN_PRUEFUNG call the same code.

Install

The add-on is not on the Google Workspace Marketplace yet, so there is no store button. The script is open source and installs by hand in five minutes:

  1. In your spreadsheet: Extensions, then Apps Script.
  2. Paste Code.gs and Sidebar.html from the GitHub folder, and the manifest appsscript.json (Project settings, show the manifest).
  3. Reload the spreadsheet: a menu Extensions, IBANforge, Set up API key appears. Paste your key there.
  4. Type =IBAN_CHECK(A2:A200) next to a column of IBANs.

What it costs, what it sends

One request per IBAN, on your own key: 25 a month free without giving an address, 200 a month once you claim the key, then prepaid packs or the Pro plan at 29 dollars a month for 10,000. Results are cached six hours per user, so recalculating a sheet does not pay twice.

Nothing leaves the sheet except the IBAN strings the functions receive; the key stays in your own script properties, never in the spreadsheet. Privacy policy

IBANforge is not a Verification of Payee service and never says that an account belongs to a person: it tells you what the registers know about the bank behind the IBAN.
